The AnastomoSEAL Project
The AnastomoSEAL Consortium was formed in 2012 to address one of the most serious problems facing patients recovering from colorectal surgery to remove a cancerous mass: anastomotic leakage (AL). AL may occur in up to 21% of patients, and is a serious condition which can lead to increased patient morbidity.
The AnastomoSEAL Consortium is working to develop a new product to prevent AL. AnastomoSEAL is a biocompatible, resorbable sealant patch which is applied around the site of anastomosis, and promotes healing of the site as well as acting as a physical barrier to help prevent leakage.
